Answers to common questions about Aida: which PDFs work, iCloud sync, purchases, backups, moving to a new device and charts that read wrong.

Which PDFs work?

Text-based PDF charts, the kind most designers sell as a download. In these, the symbols are stored as text, not as a picture.

  • A quick test: open the PDF and search for a symbol or a color number. If it's found, Aida can usually read it.
  • A scan or a photo of a printed chart is only a picture. Aida can't read picture-only PDFs yet.
  • A PDF locked with a password needs to be unlocked first.
  • Charts over several pages are joined into one.

To look around first, open Settings › About › Try a sample chart.

How do I import a chart?

Tap Import PDF in your library and pick the file. You can also open a PDF from Files, Mail or Safari and choose Aida.

Aida then shows which pages hold the chart and the key. Tap a page to leave it out or add it, then tap Read the chart.

The chart reads wrong. What can I do?

Before you start stitching, Aida shows each color's count next to the number printed in the key.

  • Mismatches are listed first. Tap a color to fix its name, number or swatch.
  • If the PDF printed one color with two symbols, merge them.
  • If the pages didn't join well, set the pages per row and drag the pages into reading order.
  • If a PDF can't be read at all, tap Send this PDF to Aida's developer. Only if you want to.

You can also email me at ferro.cg.co@gmail.com. A short note about what looks wrong helps a lot.

How does iCloud sync work?

With Sync with iCloud on, your charts and progress appear on every iPhone and iPad signed in with the same Apple Account.

  • Each mark is saved on the device first. Without a connection you keep stitching, and iCloud catches up later.
  • If you marked on two devices while offline, Aida combines them square by square.
  • If your iCloud storage is full, marking still works. iCloud catches up when there is space.
  • Turn it on or off in Settings › Your data › Sync with iCloud.

How do I restore my purchase?

Open Settings › Plan and tap Restore purchase. Use the same Apple Account you bought the plan or lifetime with.

How do I cancel the yearly plan?

On your iPhone or iPad, open Settings › your name › Subscriptions › Aida. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date.

Your charts and progress stay. Only marking stops when the plan ends, and your free chart can still be marked.

Apple handles refunds at reportaproblem.apple.com. I can't issue refunds myself.

How do I make a backup?

Open Settings › Your data › Backup file › Make backup file. You get one .aida file with your charts, PDFs and every marked stitch.

  • Save it in Files, or send it to yourself.
  • The file isn't encrypted, so keep it somewhere you trust.
  • To restore, tap Choose .aida file on the same page. Charts you already have are left as they are.

How do I move to a new iPhone or iPad?

  • With iCloud: sign in with the same Apple Account on the new device and open Aida. Your charts and progress arrive on their own.
  • Without iCloud: make a backup file on the old device, move it with AirDrop or Files, then restore it on the new one.

Your plan or lifetime comes along with your Apple Account. If it doesn't show, tap Restore purchase.

I deleted a chart by mistake.

Open Recently deleted in your library and tap Restore. The chart comes back with all its progress. It waits there for 30 days.

Does Aida work without internet?

Yes. Importing, reading and marking all work in Airplane Mode. Only iCloud sync and buying need a connection.

How do I contact you?

Email ferro.cg.co@gmail.com. I reply in English or German.

Aida has no account, so tell me your device model, iOS version and the version shown in Settings › About.
